A four-day jaunt may just be the ideal vacation an urbanite needs to enjoy respite from urban drudgery while delighting in more pursuits not offered in a typical tourist package. Within this time frame, the traveler won’t be pressured to throw in every activity into the itinerary. Rather, it encourages a relaxed pace, ideally in a remote destination which can be reached after a long drive or commute via land.

For most people, their idea of a day-off is spending time in the mall, watching a movie, eating at a restaurant, and shopping for clothes. The mall becomes their comfort zone that soon, their minds become a hodgepodge of plots from the latest blockbuster, menu of a fastfood chain, or location of where the sales are. If you become a walking and talking map of SM, Robinsons, or Ayala malls, then you need an emergency break. For your next day-off, try to drive a little farther and infuse some sense of history in your life.

The next wave in summer recreation is here – the wave pools. Touted as the next-best thing to beaches, wave pools offer the same fun – even without sandcastles – for the entire family. It appears like an entirely ordinary pool until the “wave-creating” machines are turned on. Slowly, little twirls appear on the water surface. Then it swells into small waves until the entire pool’s water moves like a mad ocean. Around this time, you can’t help but glee! And you can hear the shriek of kids reach maximum decibels.
